As a passionate Detroit Red Wings fan, the Jamie Daniels Foundation caught Stephen Polando’s attention after the Red Wings play by play announcer Ken Daniels lost his twenty three year old son to an overdose in 2016. As more information was released, Stephen learned that Ken's son, Jamie, fell victim to the criminal practice known as patient brokering. Brokers exploit those fighting addiction, and collect insurance money while they entice and provide temptation that leads addicts to relapse. The root of this criminality is that there isn’t an impressive amount of capital to be obtained through sobriety. The largest profit from rehabilitation facilities lies in patient relapse, which has left a window for the corrupted to prey on the struggles of others. While this tragic story has helped to raise awareness, there is still work to be done. Stephen passionately supports the efforts made by this organization and will be making quarterly donations. He implores you to do the same if you're able. Addiction and mental health struggles do not discriminate and the Jamie Daniels Foundation understands that.
